WC Votes is committed to a simple idea: every eligible voter should be able to cast a ballot without surprises. We use text messages to ask voters what actually happened when they voted. How long was the line? Was your registration in order? Did your mail ballot arrive on time?
The rules for voting can also change, sometimes quickly, when the federal government acts through an executive order. When that happens, people who have signed up with WC Votes hear about it from us early and in plain language, with time to prepare.
Once you sign up, we only text you for one of two reasons.
We'll send a few short questions. Did you vote? How did it go? Did you run into trouble with your registration, your polling place or your mail ballot? Answer as much or as little as you like.
What voters tell us shows where voting works and where it breaks down, so problems get noticed while there's still time to fix them.
If the federal government changes the terms of voting through executive action, we'll text you what changed, who it affects and what you may need to do about it.
The goal is that you find out from a text at home, and not from a poll worker on election day.
